A packing list may be required by the importer or importing country, and in all cases will facilitate the clearance of goods at the port of entry. Such a list should describe accurately and in detail the contents of each case or container included in the shipment and give the net and gross weights, together with C.I.F. value of each commodity.
It is used at the port of export as a “check off” to determine whether the correct cargo has been received. Finally, it is used by the buyer to inventory the merchandise received. It is also valuable if it is necessary to make an insurance claim.
